Misconceptions and blind beliefs in Astrology

It is highly unfortunate that in the land where Vedic astrology was born, most people, even a lot of astrologers, have a lot of misconceptions and blind beliefs about several basic facts of astrology. An astrologer propagates a wrong theory and a dozen people believe it . They tell a dozen more and soon it becomes an accepted norm! Misconceptions about Mangal dosha, Rakshasa Gana, Kalasarpa dosha and Sadesati have a lot of far reaching effects in our society full of superstitions, especially in marriage matters.
Click on each item below to learn what the Shastras of astrology really say about them and how the ignorant or "matlabi" pundits take people for a ride by inducing a fear psychosis!
Mangal/Kuja dosha Rakshasa Gana Sadesati Kalasarpa dosha
Mangala/Kuja Dosha:
One of the biggest misconceptions and fears in the Hindu society with respect to marriage is the presence of Mangala Dosha or Kuja Dosha in the chart of a boy or a girl. I have seen a countless number of good matches being rejected by people just because the boy or the girl has Mangala Dosha present in the chart.
Even the various Shastras of astrology differ as to in which houses it is present, what the exceptions are and what the effects and remedies are. According to some authorities Mars is placed in the 1,2,4,7,8,12, from lagna causes Kuja Dosha. Some authorities omit the 1st house and some others omit the 2nd house.
Some astrologers thump the table and quote Parashara and Varahamihira to prove their point. To start with most of the astrologers only have a very hazy idea of the sastras. On top of that, let me tell you that the existing shastras and their translations are not very pure! Take for example the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra of Rishi Parashara. In chapter 2 verse 5-7 we have the following: "Rama is the incarnation of the Sun, Krishna of the moon, Narasimha that of Mars, Buddha that of Mercury, Vamana that of Jupiter, Parashurama that of Venus, Koorma that of Saturn, Varaha that of Rahu and Matsya that of Ketu". Sounds great. However, according to astrology Parashara was the father of Vedavyasa who wrote the Mahabharata. According to our calculations the Mahabharata period was 2500 BC to 3200 BC., or around 1200BC. according to the western historians. Buddha belonged to the much later and fairly authentically recorded period. He died in 544BC. Then how did Parashara say that Buddha is the Avatara of Mercury more than a millennium before? If he were forecasting then he would have clearly stated that "Buddha avatara will be born". Obviously some of the people who wrote the shastras added a few things of their own!
Rishi Parashara, in his Brihat Parasara Horasastra, chapter 81, verse 47 said the following: "If Mars is placed in the Lagna, 12th, 4th, 7th and 8th houses, without any aspect or conjunction of the benefic planets, the husband of such a woman will certainly have an early death." So it is clear that if Mars has the aspect or association of a benefic, there is no dosha. It must be noted that in the very next verse, verse 48, he gave the other important exception as follows: "The yoga in which a woman takes birth and becomes a widow, if a male takes birth, he also becomes a widower. If a woman with the widowhood yoga marries a man with similar yoga, such yoga will be cancelled." So the 2nd exception given by him is that this feared dosha is cancelled if both the girl and the boy have mangal dosha.
However by and large the majority of the astrologers include the 2nd house also in the mangala dosha and accept the 6 houses. As there are 12 houses in a horoscope and as Mars in 6 houses causes Mangala Dosha, it simply means that 50% of the people born have Kuja Dosha of some level. Hence it goes without saying that this Mangala Dosha is not something which will ruin a person, because it is not the intention of God to condemn half of mankind.
The prevalent misconceptions are that, if a person has Martian affliction it will either ruin the marriage or will cause one's death or the death of the partner. Especially if a girl has Kuja or Mangala Dosha, called "Mangali", she is looked upon as a devil by the mother-in-law. Nothing can be farther than the truth. First let us examine what the Kuja Dosha is all about and how it affects marriage.
The planet Mars symbolizes courage, aggression, vitality, confidence, fighting spirit and warrior qualities. If Mars is placed in any of these 6 houses, it gives aggressive tendencies to either the person or the spouse. In certain cases if Mars is malefic to the native, it also gives danger to life, provided that other bad combinations are also present. These two are the main negative qualities. Hence the first reason for the "Dosha Complex" is that - in the olden days the ideal wife was regarded as one who is meek, obedient and submissive. Hence a girl with the so called Martian afflictions, who is likely to have courage and fighting spirit, was considered by our MCP society as a girl with "Dosha". The second possible reason for the "Dosha Complex" is that during the war torn middle ages when a lot of the sastras were written, a "Martian person", who is normally well built, courageous, aggressive and has fighting qualities, was a prime candidate to be recruited by the king for his army and hence the chances of his death or serious injury were quite strong. In the present changed circumstances it is foolishness of the highest order to be scared simply because one has Mangal Dosha.
However, Mangala Dosha is not something that can be ignored. It does cause marital discord. Before marriage it is very essential to match horoscopes for Kuja Dosha. If a person has Kuja Dosha in the horoscope the spouse must also have Kuja Dosha. This way the Dosha is cancelled. Otherwise both should be without any Dosha. Various "authorities and experts" have given a lot of exceptions and cancellations for the Dosha. They are so many that almost everything is cancelled! The truth is that in majority of the cases the so called exceptions and cancellations do not work.

Can We appease the Planets ?

What are then the meanings for Navagraha Preethi and Pariharam ? (i.e. appeasement rituals)
Each and every planet is moving in its assigned speed, normal, retrogation move and sometimes even stagnant to keep its orbital balances and keep its particular gravitational equity, to avoid collision.
This cycle in itself is giving added value for the earth and its entities, giving energy, rainfall, thunder and what not! The influence of other planets movement is so vast, the entire universe is, as if controlled in a planned and calculated way. If planets are influencing the earth and its particles, then who controls the planets and its movements ? This question is unanswerable and beyond our imagination. You can simply put this as an act of The God, The Nature or anything that is unreachable by us, the humans.
According to the Jyothida Sasthram, the innumerable stars and planets have a lot of relativity to every particle on the earth and it bears a significant role to its survival on earth. The Sages and Saints of olden days found the relevance and its connectivity to the earth and other planets.
Here are some facts found by them, which, quite astonishingly, produce good results, when applied correctly. To calculate the predictions, one has to get correct time of birth, exact Longitude, Latitude, and the Solar Ayanamsa of the birth date. By using all these, accurately one can erect the birth chart namely Horoscope.
On getting the correct Horoscope chart prepared, one has to study it in depth to find the multiple combinations such as Placement of planets, Balance Dasaa Bhukti, influence of star and sign one is born under, etc.
The study here considered is about the natural value of water available at some locations, which is used as remedial source for some anomalies. If, in a person's Horoscope, the planets were lined within 180 degree of Ascendant and Descendant nodes (known as Dragon's head and tail - or Rahu & Ketu) then they predict, that the native will not have any issue. Or in some cases native will have only female issue. In Indian astrology it is called as Kaala Sarpa Dosham. And if Ascendant node happen to be placed in the fifth house from the Lagna known as Ascendant, then the productivity organs of the native, are most likely ineffective. So bearing issue through this person is of some distant dream.
However, according to Astrology, this problem can be overcome, just by visiting any of the pilgrim spots located at three different places. Thirunaageswaram in Tamilnadu, Kaalahasthi in Andhra Pradesh and Trimbakeshwar in Maharashtra are the places specified in Navagraha Kshetram or the pilgrimage to Temple of Planets. It is believed that the mineral contents in the water at all the three places are of the same value and it increases potency of the native who has the Shadow Planet Rahu ill placed in the fifth of his horoscope.
In addition, by staying at any of the above places itself gives many benefits. As each pilgrimage place is located at a very strategic point, and the plants and trees grown there are also emits oxygen contents mixed with some unknown substance, which are more in need for the native. (the pilgrimage, in general - a change of place and climatic conditions and added psychological points) gets him some vitality, thus making him fit for his family life to have a child.
For each and every planet, the unknown source that has a link to a particular location on the earth is given in the Astrology. These places of worship are called Navagraha Parihaara Kshetram or Temples of Planets. Most of these temples are located in and around Kumbakonam and Tanjavur in Tamilnadu. These places are just few kilo meter distance to each other and can be visited in a day or two, if one uses motor vehicle.
For the convenience of visitors, I give below the locations of each Temple that represent a Planet, the benefit one receives on a visit, the representing value of these places in accordance to modern age and an easy accessible itinerary.
It would be of immense value if any researchers take up this issue and do some research on the values and beliefs held on these subjects from time immemorial. The research should be in form of analitic views of Mineral contents in the water, atmospheric value, climatic conditions and Sthala Vriksham or Plants and trees that emit some valuable substance.

QUESTIONING ASTROLOGY

Ques. What kind of remedy should be adopted in what situation? Do all kinds of remedies like mantra, yantra etc. be performed equally for any problem, any time?
Ans. Remedy is normally required for a planet which is active by virtue of dasha or transit, but is benefic and weak, or is malefic and strong. That is, it is not either able to give good results to its full capacity, or is giving bad results, which have to be checked. If that planet is sitting in a earthy sign in the natal horoscope, stone should be suggested, if in fire sign, yajna should be performed, if in airy sign, Mantras are useful and if in watery sign, alms or throwing things in water helps.
Normally, stone wearing enhances power of a planet and throwing items in water reduces power of a planet – whether the planet is good or bad. So if a planet is malefic but strong, then stone should be avoided and if a planet is benefic but weak then stone should be worn and its items should not be thrown or given in alms. Mantras and Yajna increase the benefic power of the planet only, without creating any loss. So whenever a planet is active, its Mantra jap and yajna should be performed for better results.

Ques. Do different systems on astrology or predictive sciences give same results?
Ans. There are various systems of prediction like palmistry, numerology, astrology. In astrology too, there are various systems, like Jaimini Parashar, Neel kanthi etc. Every system has its own benefits and shortcomings. Some systems are better than the others. If the fact of life is represented by a straight line then the various systems can be denoted by various graphs like A,B,C, which touch the reality of life only at few points.
At some points they are far off. However, when one system is at a distance from the truth, other system touches the reality. This is the reason why we believe in so many systems. However, taking average may not always give us better results, e.g. if system A is at + 10% level of accuracy and system B at +20% level then the average is +15%, which means averaging has spoilt the results of system A. Averaging may be good if one system is at negative level of accuracy and other at positive level. But we never know where we stand in our prediction for any future event, whereas for past we can always take average, or apply different systems to know why that event happened.
So it is suggested that one should adopt one system and practice more and more to bring it close to the line of reality.

Ques. Why does astrology sometimes fails?
Ans. Unlike Physics and Chemistry and like any behavioral science, astrology is an empirical science; that is the rules are based on statistics. They are not correct for any horoscope any time. This is true not only for astrology but for any predictive science. Further, the rules that we are using have not been checked for accuracy and relevance in modern times. We are using them as we found in old texts, even when many correlating factors have been lost during the last 2000 years or more. The rules when tested on large data in future will definitely give rise to better framed rules and accuracy in astrology will be more.
Ques. Which is the best predictive science – astrology, palmistry, numerology or any other and why?
Ans. Compared to all other predictive sciences, Indian system of astrology is known for its accuracy, reliability and indepth analysis. Other systems are used either in the absence of reliable birth data, or in the absence of its interpretation. Astrology is the only system where predictions can be made precisely with time.

Ques. Should Ayanamsa be used? Which ayanamsa should be used?
Ans. The planets move as per their nirayana value in the sky. This can be easily checked by matching Moon’s movement through various zodiac signs. Chaitrapaksha Ayanamsa, popularly known as Lahiri Ayanamsa, only has the scientific approval of the international astronomers and this should only be used, irrespective of what results you get astrologically. You should modify your astrological rules to suit the astronomical computations, but not vice versa.

Ques. Should we rely on dasha or Gochar? If Dasha is good and Gochar is bad then what will be the result?
Ans. Dasha and Gochar, both are equally important in determining the event in a horoscope. However Gochar can be accurately known, but Dasha is very sensitive to time of birth and cannot be accurately fixed. Secondly, there are too many kinds of known dasha systems and we do not know for sure which dasha should be applied, when doubts on Ayanamsa also takes away its authenticity. Further Dasha is normally dependent upon Moon degrees only and it ignores rest of the planets. All these shortcomings are not there in the transit system. Hence basing the predictions on transits normally give better results, unless it has been checked that the dasha system is working properly on the given horoscope.
While we are studying both Dasha and Gochar, we can take dasha to specify the event of transit to specify its strength. If both are favourable or unfavourable then the event occurs with full force. If Dasha is good and transit bad or vice versa, then the results are not clear.

Ques. Many exalted planets have been seen in the horoscope of a poor man and debilitated planets in a rich man's horoscope. how does this happen?
Ans. Normally many debilitated planets in a horoscope make "Neech Bhang Raja Yoga" and similarly many exalted planets give "Uccha Bhang Daridra Yoga". Moreover, the native with many exalted planets is a man of principles and unfit for worldy success. One or two debilitated planets help the native to aquire wealth by improper means in this kali yuga.

Ques. It is said that Lagna calculation is dependent on place, whereas planet degree calculation is independent of it. But when we compute lagna by converting time to IST and compute planet degrees without conversion, we get wrong values. Why ? What is the correct method?
Ans. It is rightly said that Lagna is dependent on place of birth, whereas planet degrees are independent of it, because they are computed for the centre of the earth.
Ephemeris shows planet degrees for a given time zone like IST. So the time of birth must be converted to IST to use such tables. But Lagna must be computed for the place of birth only, because changing the place, say from London to Delhi, will create an error of 5 ½ hours later in U.K. similarly other signs also rise 5½ hours later there.
Accuracy of the results computed can be verified by checking that Sun has to be in 10th house at noon, in 1st house in the morning, in 7th house in the evening and in 4th house at midnight. This is irrespective of the place of birth.

Ques. How much importance can be imparted to Shodashvarga ?
Ans. Shodashvarga system was propounded by our sages in such a manner that exact position of the planets could be ascertained without assigning any degree value to it. Secondly, these Vargas have not been made like we make today. Then we only assigned lordship and lordship signified the results of that planet. These vargas should not be taken at par with Lagna chart and should not be used in predictions like supplement to lagna chart, unless some yoga specifies the results of a planet in a particular varga.
In practice, these vargas confuse a general astrologer. He starts taking the planet's exaltation or debilitation. He also starts taking aspects and placement of other planets with the planet, thus deviating from the basic results.

Ques. In predictions what is more important – planet, house or sign?
Ans. In Indian system planet is most important and house is next to the planet in importance. This is probably to make things easier. in the system of Lal Kitab sign has been dropped totally, after confirming the house in which a planet is sitting. Planet in a house makes significance in prediction, whereas planet in sign only gives knowledge about its strength. This strength further gets modified due to presence/aspect of other planets.

Ques. Does one get affected by some one else's horoscope? If yes, then what is the sanctity of the horoscope?
Ans. Like one is affected by planets, he is affected by any other item in his vicinity. Every body has a gravitational pull – small or large. Effect of planets is visible because of their large mass. Stars of much higher mass do not have that much of effect because of their large distance. Secondly, our power of computation is limited. Just the nine planets and twelve signs make so many combinations that it is difficult to correlate them with life.
Horoscope having just nine planets is not the complete representation of what we are. but it is able to take care of maximum of our future with minimum of complexity. that is why we study a horoscope. Deviations to it due to others – living or non living – can be adjusted by studying the past and fitting that to the planet's effects. In brief, presence of others does not destroy the importance of the horoscope.

Ques. If in one accident many lives are taken, does that indicate similarity in everyones horoscope?
Ans. The horoscope of the place or a vehicle in which passengers are travelling, supersedes the horoscopes of the natives. Hence, in a calamity everyone's horoscope does not necessarily indicate death. However, this point needs further research and views from the readers.

Ques. We take muhurtha for something. Does it change the fate of the person?
Ans. Muhurtha gives us an idea about the future of the task that we do; for example, oath ceremony of ministry gives idea about the government; starting moment of business gives us knowledge about how the business will go etc. To have a good future we select a good muhurtha. Knowledge is strength and knowing the future of deeds in advance can definitely guide our future better. However, we can not totally reverse the direction of the fate. So many times we find things do not happen at the time of best Muhurtha, or after the event we come to know that the computations were wrong. This clearly indicates we cannot change the destiny. Still nature has provided us with hands to do something and mind to think. We should use it optimally, but without having keen desire for the best ; it will occur only if it is in fate.

Ques. Can we remove the ill effect of 7th house by doing a proper matching?
Ans. Answer to this question lies in the previous answer. We can aspire for a better married life by having a better matching, but fate cannot be overruled.

Ques. Contradictory yogas are formed in ones horoscope. What is correct in such a situation?
Ans. Contradiction is part of any behavioural science. Take the results either by strength or by the number of times it occurs.

Ques. What is the importance of chalit chart and how should it be used?
Ans. House is next to planets in importance for its role in astrology. Lagna chart shows house only approximately. Actual house position is governed only by Bhava chart or Chalit chart. Hence Chalit chart cannot be ignored in astrology. But use it cautiously, because it should not be used for determining the aspects, or knowing the sign in which a planet is posited. If a Sun moves from lagna to 12th house while it was in Aries in Lagna chart, then it does not mean that Sun has shifted to Pisces. It remains in Aries, but is placed in 12th house.

LAL KITAB

Lal Kitab : An Astrological Marvel

Lal Kitab, originally published in urdu language, enshrines such effective astrological principles and remedial measures that it has rightly been termed as .The Wonder Book. of Astrology.
The science of palmistry too has been explained in such an exquisite manner that each of the 42 divisions of the human brain have been related to the different houses of a man's birth chart in such a scientific manner that the sketch of the human brain reflects accurately on the lines of the palm. On the basis of these lines of the palm one can draw the actual horoscope of an individual and can do the placement of planets in various houses of the birth chart. The date of birth and the birth ascendant can be found out by reading the lines and mounts of the palm, which means that an individual's accurate birth chart can be drawn by seeing the lines of his palm. Similarly, by studying the different aspects of a man's residential house his birth chart can be accurately prepared on the basis of the sutras explained in the Lal Kitab.
In addition to the above, Lal Kitab has announced unique remedial measures to solve chronic and critical human problems in day to day life. These measures do not require the practice of ordeals, yagnas, havans and other complicated and expensive rituals, which prove more troublesome for persons who are already in trouble because of the evil effects of certain planets. These measures are again different from Yantras, Mantras and Tantras, which give various adverse effects if not followed rigorously in all their minute details. The measures suggested in Lal Kitab are electrically effective in solving all kinds of human troubles and tensions, without inflicting harm on anybody i.e. these remedies are completely self defensive against the evils created by the planets without
causing injury in anyway to anyone concerned.
The first part of this great treatise contains the principles and Sutras for interpretation of horoscope, termed as .Vyakaran.. The birth chart of an individual is prepared like the traditional Parashar principles, but the only important difference is that the Rashis are not considered or taken
into account for predictive astrology and, therefore, the digits indicating the Rashis in a traditional birth chart are scrapped. Secondly, for predictive purposes the ascendant is treated as the first house and it is regarded as the house of the first Rashi, i.e., Aries and counting progressively in a sequence upto the 12th house being that of Pisces. The specific principles of predictive astrology as per Lal Kitab are better summed up here as follows
1. The Sun as lord of the 5th, the Mercury as lord of the 3rd and 6th, the Jupiter as lord of the 9thand the Saturn as lord of the 10th are directly or indirectly in some form or the other are the Karakas of the father and his property. But the Jupiter and the Sun, Jupiter and Mercury or Jupiter and Saturn occupying any house jointly carry no relevance to the knowledge about father or father's property at all. Even Mercury and Sun, Mercury and Saturn or Sun and Saturn also sitting together behave in the same manner.
2. If two or more inimical planets are occupying a single house, they will not behave as enemies. But it does not mean that they do not affect the influences of each other and show their own results of being in that house independently i.e. their conjuction does not affect their individual results.
3. Friendly planets together occupying a house become extremely friendly and help each other in producing good and auspicious results.
4. The 7th house is regarded as the Pucca Ghar (permanent house) of Mercury. If Mercury is placed in the 7th house of a horoscope, even the powerful planets like Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn occupying a Kendra, 2nd or 11th house can not affect the health of the native adversely.
5. If a female planet is placed in any house along with Saturn and both are being aspected by any other planet, then the elatives of such aspecting planet as Karakas.
6. In general, all planets in their Pucca Ghar, own house or exalted house give good results. A planet in inimical house or in a house of debilitation gives bad results. If a planet is not placed in his Pucca Ghar and the same is occupied by a planet inimical to such planet, then that planet will
destroy the good results of the house in which he stands placed.
7. While examining a horoscope, the 1st, 7th, 8th and 11th houses must be examined together as they are mutually interested. The planets in the ascendant is treated as a ruler and the one in the 7th acts as his minister. The planet in the 8th is the eye of that ruler, whereas the planet in the 11th house is the ruler.s foot. More planets in the 7th house than the 1st house shows that the ruler does not have required control over his minister. If the planets in the 11th house are inimical to the planets in the first house, then they will not obey the command of the ruler i.e., the results of the 11th house will be adversely affected. The planets of the 8th house (eyes) guide the planets of the 7th house (minister) and control their
actions and effects. If the planets of the 1st and 8th houses are friendly, then the planet in the 7th house can not play any mischief. Mars in the 7th is considered to be highly conducive for gaining large property. But if mercury is in the Lagna, it will destroy the properties. It will be destroyed because of the foolishness of the native, because here the Mercury being in the first house is Karaka of the native. At the same time if the Mercury is in the 8th house, it will again destroy the properties, but here the reasons for destination will be unknown and invisible, because the active elements of the 8th house are always secretive and mysterious in nature over which the native has no control. Similarly, if the planets of the 1st and 11th houses destination are friendly, they will control the planets of the 7th house. If they are inimical, the results would be bad. The planets of the 1st house aspect the planets of the 7th house. If they are mutually inimical, then the bad results accrue because of the foolishness or unworthiness of the native. The planets of the 8th house aspect the planets of the 2nd house and thereby affect their results.
8. 2nd, 6th, 8th, 12th and 11th houses must also be examined simaltaneouosly as follows :
(a) The planets of the 8th house aspect the 2nd house and thereby affect the results of the 2nd house. The effects of the aspects of the planets of the 8th house over the 2nd house are affected by the planets of the 11th house - favourably if friendly and unfavourably if inimical.
(b) The planets of the 2nd house aspect the 6th house and affects its results. The planets of the 6th and 8th houses have secret relations with each other, because of which they also affect the planets of the 2nd house (+++).
(c) The 12th house also affects the 2nd house (+++). If there are evil planets in the 6th and 8th houses, (because of their secret/implied conjunction) their evil power increases 10 times.
(d) If the planets in the 12th and 8th houses are inimical, the native should not visit temples and other places of worship.
9. The 3rd, 11th, 5th, 9th and 10th houses must also be examined simaltaneously as follows :
(a) If there is any planet in the 3rd house, it will start showing effects after the birth of the native's younger brother. If the 9th and 5th houses are occupied by Saturn Rahu or Ketu then the unfavourable changes start coming up in the native's life just after the birth of the child.
(b) If there are good planets in the 9th house and there is no planet in the 2nd house, the native remains deprived of all the benefits.
(c) If there is no planet in the 4th house, or it is occupied by Rahu, Ketu or Saturn, then the good results of the 10th house will not be received by the native. If 10th and 2nd houses are empty, the good results of the 4th house will go waste.
(d) If the 3rd and 9th houses are bad, the 5th will also prove bad.
(e) If the 9th is occupied by Sun or Moon, the 5th house will give good results.
(f) If the 9th is occupied by Sun or Moon, then Rahu or Ketu in the 5th will neither affect the issues of the native or the native himself adversely.
(g) If Rahu or Ketu be placed in the 5th and there are inimical planets in the 8th then strokes of misfortune will hit the native through the 11th house. The relatives indicated by the planets of the 5th and 8th houses will also be affected. In this situation the earnings of the native will also be affected very adversely, if the 2nd house is empty. Nothing will be able to save the native. Now the planets of the 10th and 5th will also turn to be malefics whatever be their natural charecter.

Mars Study

MARS The well known Manglik, Kuja Dosham or what they call as Chevvai Dosham. Mars, is identified as the Ruling planet of earth and known as Bhoomi Karaka. It is denoted with brothers, Fire, Accidents, cuts, wounds, injuries, rudeness, anger, short temper, lethal weapon and War. It is also a most feared planet in general and marriage alliance seekers in particular. People in India are too scared about the planet Mars known as Kuja or Mangal. If this Planet is placed in the 2nd, 4th, 7th or 8th houses from one's ascendant or from the Moon sign in their horoscope/Natal Chart, then it is really difficult for them to find a suitable match and get married. It is a very foolish idea that marriages in India are delayed only on this count. I know a number of persons affected by branding them as "manglik" They fear that if a person is married to a non manglik either one of them will die soon. The fear of reduced longevity for one of the coupled makes everyone to think twice before the wed lock. As many astrologers profess this as a major cause or set back for one's marriage, many of the match making efforts are tactically rejected showing only on this count. No doubt, the planetary influences are to the maximum extent causing some imbalances in everybody's life, it certainly cannot be taken as granted to reject an alliance only on the ground that the person is "manglik". My father, Late Shri Mukkur Ramabathrachariyar, has once clearly explained to me that a number of matches can be found and suitable alliances can be arranged, if a proper study of the horoscope is undertaken. For example, majority of the people who fall under Positive Blood group are having the planet Mars in their1-2-4-7-8 or 12th houses. However, there are exceptions given based on the placement of Mars occupying or in conjunction with some beneficial planets. If these valuable points are ignored, then really one misses his/her suitable alliance and wrongfully confined and coupled with other non matching ones. Likewise, majority of the Non manglik horoscopes, which I have seen are of Negative Blood groups where Mars is placed in their Natal Chart at 3-5-6-9-10 or 11th house from Ascendant or Moon sign. Here again, many exceptions are given, someone having Mars in the 7th house can be of Positive Blood group and some one who has the Mars placed in the 3rd or 5th of their natal chart can be of Negative Blood group. But leaving the exceptions, majority of the cases are as aforesaid. Although it is the placement of the Mars that is now being considered here, let us discuss some most vital points too. If the birth time given is wrong, then the entire horoscope is wrong and meaningless. In some cases, the Longitude & Latitude of the birth place is wrongly given, then too, the natal chart erected goes wrong. In most cases, when the birth is taking place in the hospitals, the birth timing is not so seriously taken. I found myself in the mess, that a staff nurse in the hospital writing the timing as 2.30 PM, when my daughter was born at 1.06 pm exactly, and the doctor who attended the delivery confirmed it to me personally & immediately on delivery. I was waiting outside the ward room when it happened. And I did check and note the time. Alas, the staff nurse found her time to note the entries only at a time that was suitable to her, hence she fixed the birth time! In such cases, can one fully depend only on the horoscopes' matching? Is there any astrologer who takes the risk and blame for rejecting a perfect match, otherwise found to be manglik? Also, there is a risk of of classifying a person as manglik, if her/his birth takes place during a time, whence even the fraction of minute can change the natal chart housing positions. They are known as border cases or the junctions, when actually they may not be one! I emphasis here, for the readers to understand that manglik is not any untoward. Nor should one have any fear of it. It is nothing but a classification of Blood group that can be judged by the placement of Mars in their natal chart. In simples terms, Negative goes with Negative and Positive with Positive. Whether it is electricity or human body, the rule is same. So when next time you search for an alliance, if you find the match is perfect in every respect excepting the placement of Mars, then better you go for matching the blood group rather than fully depending on the unpredictable astrology!! I am not blaming the subject Astrology as unpredictable, predictably, most of the astrologers do it in haste, without considering the consequences. The rules, exceptions and inclusions are there to see, but just simply they stamp a person as manglik, if the Mars is placed in the houses of 1-2-4-7-8 & 12. This is where they fail and mismatch many horoscopes that fails in practical life. There are two systems to calculate one's horoscope viz. Nirayana and Sayana; The Hindu and Indian system mostly follows the Nirayana System that is vastly experienced as the best suited one. Now let us study the effects of Chevvai known as Kuja or Mangal (Mars), as per the Nirayana system. The placement of Mars or Mangal known in Tamil as Kujan and its house-wise position effects are listed below. If the Lagna or Ascendant and the Moons sign is same for a person, then it is considered that the the Kuja dosham is doubled! It is most vital to see the Hindu System astrological calculations, which is considered as an effective one in finding the results. However, once should read the chart before coming to conclusion as Mangalik, thoroughly from the Moon sign & Ascendant. According to the Devakolam system now prevailing in Kerala and in some parts of Tamilnadu one should also check this Mangal's effect from the Venus (Sukran) also. As per the Ancient Indian Astrology Kuja Dosham is considered an important aspect in marriage match making and compatibility. The very word scares and sends shivers along the spine of the alliance seekers. The moment they hear that Kuja Dosham exists in one chart, they drop it and say you find a match with similar Dosham. Chevvai or Kuja Dosham means the placement of Mangal- Kuja (Mars) in houses 1, 2,4,7,8,12 from Lagna as well from Moon sign is bad and will cause death or separation of spouse and hence should be avoided for marriage alliance unless both the parties have the same extent of Chevvai / Kuja Dosham -Mangalik. The second house from Lagna defined wealth, eye sight, tongue, longevity, communication and transport and the presence of Mars - Kuja in this affects the smooth sail of life in these fields and thus may cause death or separation of spouse/life partner and hence should be avoided. But there are exceptions for this, that is dealt in detail separately. The placement of Mars/ Kuja in 4th house from Lagna, the house that deals with the subjects of family, mother, and thus Mars, a harsh and fiery planet, causes danger to those fields governed by the 4th house and hence should be avoided for marriage alliance. If the Mars is placed in the 7th house from Lagna, the house of spouse and partners, should not have the presence of Mars - Kuja and if present may cause disputes and death of spouse. So an alliance with Mars in seventh house shall be avoided. If both are having the same proposition then sure you can consider this for a match The 8th house is for health, longevity and death and if the Mars present here then it is a potentially a danger to the native of the chart because it is considered the native as an accident prone and hence an alliance with short life span person be avoided. The 12th house is considered for Sayana, Moksha & Viraya ( expenditure) and if Mars present in this house. it will affect the longevity of the native hence an alliance with short span of life should be avoided. For the above reasons an alliance with a person having Mars placed in 2,4,7,8 & 12 houses of the horoscope are considered as people having Kuja Dosham or Mangalik and be avoided unless the other party is also having same value and extent of Kuja Dosham-Mangalik. Mars represents of a persons ego, self esteem, energy, will power, confidence and temperament. If mars dosham is there then it can make a native's temper volatile. Such natives have troubles adjusting with spouse, friends & colleagues can at times become ruthless. However traditional Indian system of Hindu Astrology has given certain exemptions even if the Mars - Kuja placed in these houses with the following simple conditions. 1. If Lagna or Moon sign is Capricorn (Makaram - where Mars is exalted) OR in Cancer (where Mars is debilitated) or Leo (Simmam as the Sun, Lord of Leo's Exalting House is Aries) Aries (Mesham) or Scorpio (Viruchikam) as the last two being Mar's own house. The Kuja/Mangal dosham will not affect or apply nor will do any harm to them. 2. If Mars is in 12th house and the 12th house is Taurus or Libra then also the native will not have the applicability of Kuja Dosham. This exception is given because both Taurus and Libra are the direct 7th houses from Mar's own house. 3. Like wise Mars in 4th house and if the 4th house falls in Aries and Scorpio then Kuja Dosham does not apply. 4. If the 7th house is in Capricorn or Cancer and the Mars placed in any of them, then also Kuja Dosham does not apply. 5. If Mars is positioned in the 8th house and the 8th house falls in Sagittarius or Pisces then Kuja Dosham does not apply. 6. If Mars is in conjunction with Jupiter (Guru) or Sun (Suryan) or Sani, then the Mangalic effect is nullified. 7. A general opinion is that if Mars is in 2nd or 12th in the male horoscope or Mars in the 4th & 7th houses in female horoscope or Mars in 8th in either of the horoscope, there is no escape from Kuja Dosham. This single placement is considered too harsh to have Mangalik or Chevvai or Kuja Dosham. 8. If Jupiter's 5th, 7th or 9th house aspect is visible, then the native need not worry at all. If Mars is in conjunction with Jupiter and Moon, then it is considered more lucky as Guru Mangala Yogam and Gaja Kesari Yogam is combined together to weed off the ill effects! 9. Quite apart from the above, if Mangal or Mars is in 8th house in conjunction with Venus known as Sukra, then it is really more harmful. It is a must to find a suitable alliance only with the same combination of horoscope. Venus in the 7th house aspect of Mars from 7th or 8th house Drishti is still worse. It this happen to be the exalted house of Mars, i.e. Makara, then surely a same combination of alliance should be sought. It is just because, the physical and sexual demands will be more, or to say critically high, so the partner should match this criteria. If a person is born on a Tuesday, then not to worry as for them, they are surely not a Mangalik, since the day lord Mars Rules for the day, the Manglik effect is nullified to a maximum extent. If Mars is in conjunction or aspect by Jupiter, Sun or Saturn, then too the ill effects are nullified. According to Deva Kolam, even exchange of house with Mars by any other planet causes this Dosham nullified. In terms of Astrology and the Indian system I have listed few vital aspects of the Kuja Dosham - Mangalik - Chevvai dosham. Now it is for the reader just to judge and value the the above, comparing it with Science and nature. The general and known house-wise effects of Mar's placement is listed below: Mars dominated natives have a tremendous fire like energy and if this energy is not utilized in something constructive then the above related problem arises. This specific Mangal Dosham or Chevvai Dosham is generally affect the marital life. Ill effects of Mars/Mangal in the houses are as listed below; Let's see the house-wise effects of Mars in a native's chart: Mars in Lagna (Ascendant - 1st house): It will directly aspect the houses 7th house and also Its aspect (Drushti) is powerfully fall in the 8th house. 7th house being the house of life partner, Mars will create quarrels even on minor issues. Here it indicates physical violence and sexual abuse. Because of cruel behavior of such a native will be despised by society. Will not be able to gain assets. Mars in the 2nd house: The second house represents for Family, left eye sight, Money, cash flow, and tongue. If Mars is placed in the 2nd house, then the person is of curt, temperament, harsh, talkative and with rash in nature. Mars in 4th house: This house also represents happiness. This also affects the work area. Will frequently change profession and jobs. Will not be economically successful. No job security . Mars in 7th house: Here it causes great anger. The native possesses extra energy. If Mars placed equally in the 7th house of the couple, then the physical pleasure would surely make them as happiest couple. If otherwise, the person with Mars in the 7th house will never get any physical/ sexual satisfaction from the partner as it will be a mis-matched couple. Therefore it is most likely that the native has tendency to look from outside for his pleasures, thus putting a question mark on his/her character. It makes such a person with an abnormal interests such as domination, fetish, bondage. It is most likely, that he/she will have some differences with family members. Mars In 8th House: Loss of paternal property and bad relationship with the elders of the family. A person with lethargic attitude and lazy. No help he/she will get from the co-borns. Will vile away the time and will expect the spouse to earn. Mars in 12th house: Sudden financial losses are indicated in this house. Lot of enemies and the enemies will always trouble such a native. Will have lot of mental problems and anxiety. Lack of co-operation from brothers, or No brother at all (Sahothra Nashtam). However, the alignments of other planets, the Drushti known as aspect and the conjunctive effects of rest of the planets are more influencing factors in judgment. So, please do not conclude that the above statement alone valid; it surely depends on of other factors too, which must be considered before branding any one as mangalik. No doubt, the ancient scholars did a splendid job by identifying many of the planetary influences on the Earth, but they never would have thought about our present day astrologers influences! Oh, how many perfect suitable marriage alliances are rejected, how many mismatched ones are coupled and how many divorces and death takes place just because of horoscope mismatched bondages! OH, NO MORE MISMATCHES, please. Just check the other qualities of the prospective bride or groom, if only on the ground of manglik it is rejected, then better you go for Blood Group check and match it fine from there on. And this way, you can escape and be saved from the HIV infected alliances too! I am sure, the contents given above are an eye opener to many of the alliance seekers and I write this with good intentions. Surely, I am not blaming any Astrologers or their profession, but underline the need to go for soul searching. In practical terms, I did come across as many as 300 horoscopes, that were matched by astrologers as best suited, but actually the female partner suffers more, when the blood group is a mismatch. This too, most often occurs, when they are pregnant and also post birth problems are of more serious in nature. Father is positive - mother is of negative blood group. And if the child born with positive group, then the breast feeding is a complicated one as the child's intake might make a lots of complication right from the first time. At times, even the child may have to be kept under medical observation for a longer period than the normal times. Like wise for the negative blood group father and positive blood group mother and if the child is of negative blood group, again same sort of problem occurs. So, be sure, you match the blood group, when you are branded as or in doubt about the Kuja Dosham, Manglik or Chevvai Dosham. This will certainly give you the scientific value, if you consult a medical practitioner too in this regard.
